Perfect Pairings: Odd Couplings, Featured in Cleveland Magazine

If you love sushi, then Sushi on the Roll's fruit roll may seem a little strange. It contains no eel, tuna, shrimp or salmon at all. Instead, the colorful maki roll, held together with a bright yellow soy wrapper, contains cream cheese and three to five fruits such as mango, kiwi and orange.

Customer Review of Sushi on the Roll in Medina

Fast food sushi? Can it be.. good?

The answer is yes, when it's Sushi on the Roll!

Hubby and I heard rumors there was a new sushi restaurant opening in Medina, but didn't believe it until we saw it with our own eyes. We were expecting a place similar to House of Hunan on the square, but were surprised when we saw a more Chipotle-style set-up: bright, spacious, order at the counter, fill your own fountain drinks, eat at bistro tables.

I will admit, seeing only Caucasian employees rolling sushi was a shock at first. But, it worked here. Plus, the owner, Jon, visited each of the tables to check on our food and mingle with his customers. We had a nice chat with him about being a business owner, why this business, his sushi philosophy, and what his hopes are for SOTR. Jon is friendly and passionate and has a good thing going.

As self-proclaimed sushi snobs, we were skeptical about how good sushi could be from a counter order, made by non-Asians. We were pleasantly surprised when our order was ready, and we wanted more after we cleaned our plate. The yellowtail sashimi is the best tasting and most generous portion we've had in town! The rolls are interesting, and they offer a selection of rice and noodle bowls.

Now there are three ways to get your sushi in Medina: in the deli section of your favorite grocery store, at the sit-down fancy House of Hunan, or at the casual don't-worry-about-your-screaming-child and eat-at-your-leisure Sushi on the Roll.

Variety is the spice of life, after all.
